In 1985, Steve Jobs left the company he had helped create.

He was just thirty. It looked like an ending. In fact, it became the beginning of a remarkable second act.

Three turning points

  1. 1985Departure

A familiar future came to an end.

  2. 1986Pixar

A different kind of future took shape.

  3. 1997Return

Apple welcomed back a changed founder.

The years outside Apple

Jobs later told Stanford graduates how devastated he felt when he was pushed out. After the shock, he realized he still loved his work—and began again.

He founded NeXT and invested in Pixar, which became independent in 1986. Apple acquired NeXT, bringing Jobs back in 1997. The years away proved unexpectedly consequential.

Pisces and the space to imagine

Born on February 24, Jobs has a Pisces Sun in the tropical zodiac. Pisces is traditionally associated with imagination and a sense of possibility beyond the visible.

A zodiac sign did not cause the comeback. It simply offers a vivid lens for looking at how someone kept imagining while the old plan collapsed.

He returned, but not as the same person

NeXT was a new laboratory for computing; Pixar was another lesson in technology and storytelling.

The twist is not just that he returned. It is what happened between departure and return.

Sometimes the time away from the stage becomes the path back.
